Publishing map data
Your designs are private: only you, and the people you share the project with, see them. Publishing lets other people read some of the map's data without opening the project. You can publish:
- the whole map, some layers of it, or the features you selected;
- to anyone (public), your organization, members you name by email, or API keys;
- with only the fields you choose, and until a date if you like.
They can read it. They can never change it. You can revoke a publication at any time.
Only the map's editors can publish it. The map must be in the new map store (maps opened with live sync).
Open Publish
With the project's map open, click ⋮ (More actions) at the right of the toolbar, choose Share map, then the Publish tab.
Publish
- What to publish:
- The whole map: every layer of the map, now and as you keep editing it.
- Some layers: pick the layers. If you selected features first, their layers are already picked.
- The selected features: the features you selected on the map before opening the window (click, a box, or a layer's Select all). The count is shown. This choice is greyed out when nothing is selected.
- Who can see it. Tick one or more:
- Anyone: public, no sign-in needed. "All fields" data also shows on the public map layers.
- My organization: every member of your organization.
- Members: type each person's email address and press Enter. Each address must have a landplan.io account.
- API keys: pick one of your keys (Menu › API keys), or type a key id such as
lp_abcd1234.
- Fields they get. Everyone gets each feature's shape, its layer and its id. Then choose:
- Descriptive fields only: the name, description, system name, length and area. Never prices, costs or product ids. This is the default.
- Choose the fields: pick from the list. A ⚠ marks prices, costs and catalog ids.
- All fields: everything, prices and product ids included. A warning reminds you. This is also the only choice that shows the data on the map layers (for example the public map) as well as through the data link.
- Expires (optional): the data stops being visible at the end of that day.
- Click Publish.
The publication appears in the list below the form.
The list of publications
Each publication shows:
- what it publishes and who sees it;
- its fields;
- when it was published, when it expires or when it was revoked;
- its status: live, expired or revoked.
For a live publication:
- 🔗 Copy the data link: copies its link. The link answers with the data as GeoJSON, 1,000 features at a time. Public data opens with no sign-in. Members open it signed in. An API key is sent as
Authorization: Bearer lp_<id>_<secret>. A GIS tool or a script can read it. - Revoke: after you confirm, the data stops being visible to its audience at once. A revoked publication stays in the list for the record.
To change a publication, revoke it and publish again.
Good to know
- Publishing never gives anyone the right to edit. Readers see the published features and their published fields.
- Migrated and new maps are private until you publish them.
- Each publication records who published it, and who revoked it and when.
- To share the whole project with someone, so they can keep working on it, use Map sharing instead.
